Obituary

Robert P. Barrows, 77, of Alanson, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.

Bob was born April 20, 1936, in Detroit. He was the son of Wesley and Mary (Sexton) Barrows. Bob grew up in Dearborn.

In 1954 at the age of 18,  he was drafted into the United States Army and served 26 years, which included four tours in Germany. He retired from the military in 1981. After retirement he worked at Blarney Castle and Trout Creek.

He married Aurelia "Rae" (Ramsby) Barrows on Jan. 1, 1986. He was a member of the VFW post in Indian River. Bob enjoyed dancing, camping, working in his pole barn and hunting with his son in the U.P.    

He is survived by his wife, Rae; children, Mark (Deb) Barrows of Ramsey, Minn., Cheri (Mike) Dunn of Gaylord, Mich., Mellissa Cadotte of Cheboygan, Mich., Maria Ross of New Jersey; sisters, Elaine Hanner of Livonia, Mich., Cindy August of Alanson, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Littlefield Township Cemetery in Alanson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or The American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were handled by Charles G. Parks Funeral Home in Petoskey.

This is really sad.  Hestand and I were just asking about him at the reunion, he reminded me that Sgt Barrows came home from Nam with me.  Sgt. Barrows last words to me at the Seattle Airport, as he was catching a plane home were, "take care of yourself Menduchi".... Will remember him always

Sad sad news indeed. I was happy to have seen him in D.C. after all those years after Vietnam.
